Why a trackable QR code beats a static one

Every free QR generator on the internet will happily turn a URL into a square of black-and-white pixels. Print it, stick it on a flyer, done. So why would anyone pay for a QR code?

Because a static code is fire-and-forget — and "forget" is exactly what it does for you. The moment it's printed, it's frozen: you can't fix the link, you can't tell if anyone ever scanned it, and you can't tell which of your five flyers did the work.

What "trackable" actually means

A trackable QR code adds one small ingredient: a redirect layer. Instead of encoding your destination directly, the code encodes a short link on our domain. When someone scans it, we forward them to your real destination — usually in well under a tenth of a second, and the visitor never notices.

That indirection buys you two superpowers:

What the analytics look like in practice

Say you run a Saturday market stall and put the same code on your banner and on the little cards you hand out. With scan analytics you'd see the banner code spike between 9 and 11 am, mostly phones, mostly local — while the handout cards trickle in all week from further away. That's not vanity data: it tells you the cards travel and the banner sells on the spot, so you know where the next printing dollar goes.

When a static code is fine

Honesty corner: if the destination will never change and you don't care who scans — say, a Wi-Fi password card for your guest room — a static code is fine. Trackable codes earn their keep when the code is printed somewhere that's expensive to redo, when the destination might change, or when you're spending real money on the thing the code is printed on and want to know if it works.

The failure mode trackable codes prevent

The most expensive QR mistake isn't a typo — it's the perfectly good code pointing at a page that no longer exists. Menus move, promotions end, websites get rebuilt. A static code on 500 printed flyers becomes 500 dead ends. A trackable code becomes a two-minute edit in your dashboard.
